designers in residence at Art Center College of Design, Pasadena
CA
As of May
2006, The Netherlands Foundation for Visual Arts, Design and
Architecture, in collaboration with the Art Center College of
Design in Pasadena, will provide a new opportunity for an artist-in-residence
program for Dutch designers. For the first work period Art Center
selected designer trio 75B to work for a year on a specific
project or research. 75B, a collaboration between Robert Beckland,
Rens Muis and Pieter Vos, was founded in 1997. The basis of
their design approach is often a clear (sometimes humoristic)
idea, and a search for the essence of a message. According to
75B the United States, and Los Angeles in particular, represent
"popular culture" as no other, a culture that always
inspired the designers. In their work they show a continuing
fascination for an analysis of mass communication, including
its form and its effects.
Art Center
College of Design has been a leader in art and design education
for nearly 75 years. The College offers undergraduate and graduate
degrees in a wide range of disciplines, as well as Public Programs
offering design education to all ages and levels of experience.
Fundamental to Art Center's core curricula is a commitment to
social and cultural engagement and giving students the tools
and skills with which to effect change and address real-world
issues. Art Center is located in Pasadena, California, with
classes held at its Hillside Campus and new South Campus in
downtown Pasadena. Art Center is continuously looking for international
collaboration and exchange of knowledge and ideas. It has established
various collaborations with design academies across the globe.
It often invites international guest speakers and organizes
the biennial international Art Center Design Conference. For

About
75B
75b
consists of Robert Beckand (The Hague 1972), Pieter Vos (Utrecht,
1971) and Rens Muis (Rotterdam 1974). The three designers started
working together during their study graphic design at the Academy
of Arts in Rotterdam. At the academy they started out with assignements
for youth- and music culture. After graduating in 1997 they
continued working together in a studio at the van Oldenbarneveltstraat
in Rotterdam.
75B's aim
is to create innovative and experimental designs for various
sort of clients. Next to working for others, they develop their
own projects in which they accomplish their self-made assignments.
Important elements of their work are: strong and often humorous
ideas, clear and direct communication, and a self-willed identity.
