The Yearbook
Dutch Design 05 once again presents a well documented and illustrated
overview of all the most important and outstanding projects
in the fields of product design, fashion, architecture and graphic
design in the Netherlands. The yearbook's format is unique in
that it places exhibitions, presentations, design fairs, awards
and publications at the heart, while featuring a wide range
of products and designers.
Highlights
of the past year included the presentations by Maarten Baas
and Tord Boontje at Moss in New York, the Ideal House by Hella
Jongerius at the Furniture Fair in Cologne, the appointment
of a Dutch national as head of the BMW Design Department and
a Design Oscar for traffic lights.
Three essays
focus attention on the latest developments which have an influence
on Dutch Design. Bernard Hulsman describes the relationship
between design and fear, Max Bruinsma looks at the legacy of
modernism and how it influences present-day designers, and Timo
de Rijk sheds light on Dutch designers and their notion of Europe.
The Yearbook
Dutch Design 05 comprises eighty projects, based on an independent
selection. Together with well over 250 photographs it shows
'Why Dutch Design Is so Good'.
